GTDA provides one-on-one tutoring in reading and spelling, training to tutors and teachers, and community education to enhance awareness of dyslexia and the challenges faced by people with dyslexia. GTDA is the only tutoring center in the greater Grand Traverse region that specifically uses the Orton-Gillingham method to teach struggling learners reading, writing, and spelling. Most of the students we teach could not learn to read, write, or spell proficiently any other way.

They must have the systematic, multi-sensory phonetic instruction of Orton-Gillingham in order to reach their goals in the classroom and in life. A non-profit organization, GTDA was formed in 1985 when parents and teachers in our community expressed a need for help for struggling students. Today, GTDA serves an average of 125 students per year with 25 trained tutors.

Know a cause worth supporting?

Some of our most meaningful community partnerships begin with a nomination or recommendation from a neighbor. If you know a nonprofit, local organization, or family making a difference—or one that could use extra support—we want to hear about it.

Help Us Make a Difference

Your nomination helps us discover important work happening throughout the area and gives our team another opportunity to give back.
